Tooting my own horn a bit...
I would like to note that this afternoon I defended my dissertation and received my PhD, hopefully quieting any nagging doubts that this blog may not be the work of a Professional. What do you have to say about this turn of events, Herr Professor Von Drake?
…yes. That's it exactly. I'll be soliciting submissions for my new academic journal, Ludwig, later this month. Look forward to it!
I was thinking: what can I do on this blog to commemorate this occasion? There isn't exactly a surfeit of graduate-school-related Disney comics, though, is there? Or ANY, as far as I'm aware. Correct me with I'm wrong. Well, whatever; I have some material for the near future that we can pretend was specifically meant for this, as opposed to just being stuff I would've posted anyway. For starters--you oughta like this--I finally had the wherewithal to scan the English version of Carpi's "That Missing Candelabra," which you can download here. And you SHOULD, 'cause it's super-awesome.
Anyway, more later.

Congratulations, Geo. I hope you're as proud of yourself as can be, because that's an incredibly difficult accomplishment. Celebrate, treat yourself well, and try not to get too hammered your first night as a doctor. :) I am really happy for you, man.
Congratulations, Dr. GeoX! Live long and prosper! And get tenure soon, so you can stop publishing in your field and spend *all* your time outside the classroom writing about the Ducks! (Well, actually, I guess that last one is a pretty selfish wish on my part....)
As for duck comics appropriate to the occasion....David Gerstein did suggest a while back that you take a look at "Big Brain Blowout" (Kirsten de Graaf and Mau Heymans). As an academic in the humanities myself, the one thing I would say about that story is that it is not believable to me that scientists would react as they do in this story...but it is perfectly believable that humanities scholars would. We do not have a mutually agreed-upon experimental method to keep us from rank idiocy. All we have is the occasional scholar like you, who sees through silliness and keeps a sense of humor about it all!

One thing strikes me about the idea of "a journal named LUDWIG"... You couldn't possibly justify keeping ANY subject matter out of it, since Ludwig was such a polymath! So having articles accepted in LUDWIG would be a breeze, no?

Yeah, except articles should ideally be about really esoteric subjects with no practical use to anyone (insert snide comment to the effect of "that describes all journals ever!" here).
