"Kitty-Go-Round"

This entry's going to be a short one, but hopefully rewarding, too. I just received a handful of back issues of Gladstone's Donald Duck Adventures (not to be confused with Disney's Donald Duck Adventures or Gemstone's Donald Duck Adventures--great job with the nomenclature, gentlemen!), and was perusing DDA37 when I came across something in the two-page filler story in the back (written and drawn by two individuals named Gary Gabner and Craig Deeley, about whom Inducks knows nothing) that made me take note. It's a completely ordinary, predictable story in which Donald sees a rat in Scrooge's office. Donald tries to impress upon Scrooge the seriousness of this situation--he might eat your money!--but Scrooge is blasé. HOW CAN THIS BE?!? you ask, baffled. WELL THAT'S GOING TO BE THE PUNCHLINE, ISN'T IT? Yes, BUT:

Starting in 2011: Unexpurgated Floyd Gottfredson Library!

(COMPLETELY unexpurgated? That's what the dude indicates in the interview, though it's hard to tell whether this is a definitive statement. Will it include the infamous suicide strips, f'rinstance? It doesn't seem completely implausible, but ultimately, I'll believe it when I see it.)

"The Mysterious Crewless Ship"

Here's a story drawn by Tony Strobl and written by some unknown fellow who for convenience's sake we'll assume is ALSO Tony Strobl! It's sort of dumb in some ways, but it's also sort of neat in some ways, and I have a lot of things, some good, some bad, some meaningless nitpicking, to say about it. This is unlikely to really add up to much, but it'll be fun, maybe!

Once I built a blogroll; I made it run, made it run against time.

I would've done so sooner, but HTML scares me. I took a relevant class when I was doing my MA, but at this point, linking stuff and formatting text is about all I can manage. But I did it! And now it's done (brother can you spare a dime?)! They're alphabetized by first name, for no easily-justifiable reason. If you have a Site of Interest that I did not link (or if you know of one), the odds are fairly good that it's not because I hate you personally, so don't be shy. We're all about community hereabouts.

"Duck in Orbit"

It has been argued that the US market for Disney comics is hampered at least in part by the fact that there are virtually no comics actually produced in the US, and that, for whatever their virtues (which can be considerable), foreign creators don't exactly understand the characters in the same way that Americans do (or COULD, if there were actually a statistically significant number of American creators kicking around these days), and therefore they don't resonate as strongly with US audiences.

Daisy Duck's Diary

"It's a duck comic!"

"No! It's a hate crime!"

"Duck comic!"

"Hate crime!"

"Duck comic!"

"Hey, guys, guys, calm down--you're both right! Daisy Duck's Diary is a duck comic AND a hate crime!"
