I have no problem with Scrooge mentioning he use to work as a whaler (in such old story) but the fact they actually shown him HARMING A WHALE WITH A HARPON... WHAT THE-- ???

True - The whale eaten Donald but I can't imagine HD&L seeing this and not going "Lisa Simpson" on Scrooge...

Mhhh... Maybe there is a sequel story with a flashback showing Scrooge teaching this "family trade" to his younger cousin? (Moby Duck orgin story)

So far I only read few pages but transletion looks pretty good. As soon I find some time I will read the rest! Heads should be rolling.

I thank you for your kind words. You can assume that almost any outside reference or effort to add color is my doing. The French script is pretty bland. I've been told on a number of occasions that the French translations may be to blame for any flatness, but I dunno--for a number of stories, I've read both French translations and really dull, literal British/Comixology translations, and they're pretty much the same, regardless of language. They may be poorly done, but I don't get the impression they're actually leaving much out. Of course, there may be significant exceptions.GeoX, one of the GeoX boys.https://www.blogger.com/profile/14658452994152399308noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5423579092779163824.post-30806232771099141612013-12-12T20:46:38.727-05:002013-12-12T20:46:38.727-05:00Nice work, Geo! I liked the “merit badges in submarine discovery” bit too — and your occasionally sarcastic narration captions (“A thrilling escape!”, lol).

All other goofiness aside, possibly the most shocking thing about this story is that the ducks violate the first law of Australian settings (I believe you’ve mentioned it before) and ride on the kangaroos’ backs instead of in their pouches! I actually happen to own a physical copy of this story, and I know for a fact I've read it as a child...but I have no recollection of it whatsoever! I never would have even realised I have read it if I hadn't checked Inducks. You'd think I'd remember an adventure as strange as this, but no. (This does, however, give me the opportunity to compare your version with the funny, but bizarre Finnish translation of the story.)

Anyway, the insanity of many of the Italian adventure stories really has to be admired: even if they're not always the greatest, at least there's entertainment value to just how strange they can get. This story isn't the weirdest ever, but it's definitely a lot of fun. (Save for the racist caricatures that pop up in way too many comics of the time. Ugh.)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
