Shoot. And here I was, hoping we'd get to see another photo of you reading a Disney comic in some impressively remote location.

First, we reach the two-year anniversary of no “Core Four” Disney comic books – and now a month of “Geo-No”! …MAKE IT STOP!

I should also commend Geo for offering this post on his Blog’s temporary dormancy.

Many other Blogs simply “go-dark” for unspecified, and often lengthy, periods of time, with nary a word to those readers who might continue to drop by to find no updates again and again! This sort of explanation is not only good form, but is very much appreciated by this regular… er, “dropper-by-er-type-person”.

@Elaine

Well, no guarantees, but I may be working overseas in the near-to-middle future, which would likely provide plenty of opportunities for photography.

@Joe

A melancholy anniversary indeed--and to think, for a brief moment, things seemed to be going so well. As I may have previously noted, bah.

@Geo:

I’ll probably observe the anniversary EVERY YEAR until there’s no longer a need to! HEAR THAT, Disney? I’ll DOG YOU for as long as it takes! (…I’m just contrary, that way!)

On Friday (6/28/2013) you’ll find some sorta “Anniversary Tribute” thingee on my own Blog. Didn’t want ya ta think I forgot all ‘bout it!

What, in your opinion, would be a "decent interval" since the most recent post before the blog-owner posts a brief update like Geo's?

How long is a decent interval of Blogging silence, Chris?

I’m not certain there is a definitive answer. If you had to pin me down, I’d say a month or more with no “indication of hiatus” is probably unacceptable – unless, of course, some unfortunate life experience or affliction had left the Blogger unable to carry on. I’d push that up closer to two weeks. But, that’s just me. I suppose I’ll go with three weeks to a month.

For just being “busy” or temporarily unmotivated (I’ve certainly been both at various times), a placeholder announcement is good form – or, if in-depth commentary and analysis is not always possible (…and we all know that, sometimes it just AIN’T), the Blogger can always “fake it” with an illustration of some sort, a comic book cover, or the like – with a line or two. You’ve seen me use that trick often enough. Or link to something that might be of interest to your readers. That’s another easy out that allows you to maintain your presence. You can even “cheat” by posting about an upcoming post! …Guilty on that!

But, everyone’s different. Not everyone would Blog through 11 days of no power from Hurricane Sandy, as I did. And Mark Evanier seems to update almost HOURLY, while I try to keep it to “once-or-twice-a-week”, as do you.

It’s an interesting topic for discussion. …And, I’m pleased that Geo thought to do so.

Joe,

Your suggestions make good sense, I think. Even if you have no time to do a really massive post at the moment, you can always do previews, links to other pages, etc.

Hey, GeoX, remember how you were wondering whether there was a story appropriate for the occasion of earning a doctorate? I just read Journal de Mickey 3002, which I bought for a McGreals/Rota story. In the story "The Oracle of the North" (Paul Halas & Jack Sutter/Branca), Donald, Scrooge, and the boys all get honorary doctorates in the last panel, in recognition of their having made a discovery of great archaeological significance! It's about time, I'd say!

Elaine,

"...Donald, Scrooge, and the boys all get honorary doctorates in the last panel..."

No problem with Don or Scrooge getting such an honor; the real eye-opener is that HD&L are included. (I wonder who the youngest person to receive an honorary PhD actually is.)
Given that one Barks story showed a calculus formula on the blackboard of HD&L's KINDERGARTEN classroom, the PhD might be considered a mere confirmation of their extraordinary intellectual capacity. I imagine that Gilbert is quite jealous.

Yes, I don't know what requirements are for honorary doctorates in general, but presumably people still in grade school are ruled out. Perhaps the rules are different in Duckburg, though.

Actually, it gets weirder: Magica is also granted an honorary doctorate, for her role in the discovery...but she is indisposed as a result of the adventure and unable to be present to receive the honor.

The degree-granting school in the story was "l'Université de Donaldville". Presumably it was Duckburg University in the English script. Personally, I have long thought there to be two institutions of higher learning in Duckburg: the University of Calisota at Duckburg and Cornelius Coot College (whose students are nicknamed "Cooties," which is useful in town/gown conflicts).
